Hop on hop off bus

Phnom Penh Hop-On Hop-Off Bus is a really easy, low-stress way to see Phnom Penh with kids — especially if walking long distances or planning routes feels like too much.

What we like most about the hop-on hop-off bus is that it lets you see a lot of the city without constantly getting on and off transport. Kids can sit, look out the window, snack, chat, and just take it all in, which makes sightseeing feel much more manageable as a family.

The route covers loads of key stops around the city, including places like U Mall, Wat Botum Park, Independence Monument, Royal Palace, Central Market, Wat Phnom, China Town, and the Riverside / Mekong cruise pier. Even if you don’t hop off at every stop, just passing these landmarks helps kids build a picture of the city and recognise places they’ve been (or are planning to visit).

We’ve found it works really well as either:

  • a gentle orientation activity at the start of a trip, or

  • a restful sightseeing option when everyone’s legs (and patience) are running low.

Because it runs during the day and into the evening, it’s also a nice way to see Phnom Penh change pace — from busy daytime streets to a more relaxed evening atmosphere, without needing to plan anything complicated.

The hop-on hop-off bus isn’t about rushing or ticking things off. It’s about easy viewing, minimal effort, and flexibility, which makes it a great option for families with young children who still want to explore the city without overdoing it.
