Grab
Grab is hands down the app we use most to get around Phnom Penh as a family. It just makes day-to-day life so much easier, especially when you’ve got kids with you and don’t want the stress of figuring things out on the go.
We mostly use tuk-tuks, and Grab makes them incredibly easy to book. They’re affordable, quick to arrive, and honestly one of the most kid-friendly ways to get around the city. Our kids absolutely love riding in tuk-tuks — it turns getting from A to B into part of the adventure rather than just transport.
What we really like is how flexible it is. You can move at your own pace, book rides when you need them, and avoid walking long distances in the heat with tired little legs. It’s especially handy for short trips, evenings out, or when everyone’s had enough and just needs to get home.
Grab also takes away the need to negotiate prices or explain where you’re going — everything’s set in the app, which makes travelling with kids feel far more relaxed. You can see the route, the cost, and track the ride, which is reassuring when you’re travelling as a family.
If you’re visiting or living in Phnom Penh with children, Grab is one of those essential apps we’d recommend downloading straight away. Simple, reliable, and a really easy way to get around the city — with tuk-tuks making it fun for the kids too.
